West Greece

Western Greece (Greek Ditiki Ellada Δυτική Ελλάδα ) is a region ( periferia Greek περιφέρεια ) Greece. A portion is located on the southwest coast of the Greek mainland before the Ionian Islands to the mouth of the river Achelous, which forms the other part of the northwest corner of the Peloponnese peninsula. Since 2004, both areas by the Rio - Antirrio bridge across a narrow strait between the Gulf of Patras and the Gulf of Corinth are interconnected. Western Greece has about 708,000 inhabitants, of whom lived nearly a quarter in the capital city of Patras.

Regional districts and municipalities

The West Greece region is divided into three regional districts that correspond to the areas of the former prefectures of the region. Proportional to their population, they send a certain number of MEPs in the 51 -member Regional Council.
