Western Downs Region

Geography

The region is located southeast of the state about 175 km west of the capital Brisbane.

Largest city and administrative headquarters of the LGA is Dalby with about 12 000 inhabitants. History

Today's Western Downs region was founded in 2008 from Dalby Town, the four Shires Chinchilla, Murillo, Tara, Wambo and the southern part of Taroom Shire. Originally called the merger Dalby region, in 2009 received the LGA its current name.

Management

The Western Downs Regional Council has nine members. The Mayor ( mayor) and eight other Councillor shall be elected by all residents of the region. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
