Rollergirl - Sometimes the straight and narrow is the way (Original Title: Whip It ) is an American dramedy from 2009 by Drew Barrymore. Barrymore celebrated with this film, her directorial debut and also worked as a producer and actress. It is the adaptation of the novel Whip It by Shauna Cross with Ellen Page in the lead role.

Action

The film is about the rebellious, young high school student Bliss Cavendar who wants to break out of her dreary life in Bodeen, Texas backwater. Rather than continue to participate all the way to the idea of the mother Brooke in beauty competitions, it therefore closes without their parents' knowledge of a group of skater interior and is a member of a roller derby team. Here, the sheltered grown and petite Bliss must learn the harsh rules of full contact sport. However, due to its speed it is quickly becoming the star of the scene, which is also the parent is not hidden and leads to conflicts.

The film shows how the initially shy and timid protagonist gains self-confidence and maturity and learn to succeed in everyday life. Unlike other coming- of-age films, the protagonist seeks to eliminate the end of the act, the resulting conflicts with her parents and shows willingness to compromise. These accept the desire for her daughter to continue to play roller derby.

After its release on October 2, 2009, the film was able to import about 16 million U.S. dollars with a production budget of about 15 million U.S. dollars worldwide. In Germany the film was launched on 1 September 2011 in the cinemas. In Germany the film was released on 3 February 2012 on DVD and Blu -ray.
