William Bach, Baron Bach

William " Willy " Stephen Goulden Bach, Baron Bach (born 25 December 1946 in London) is a British politician ( Labour Party ) and Life Peer.

Life and career

Bach attended Westminster School and then studied at New College, Oxford. There he earned a bachelor's degree (BA Hons) in English Language and Literature from science. He then completed his legal training in Nottingham. He was called to the Bar in 1972; In the same year he came as a young lawyer to Leicester, where he settled permanently. He was a member of the Bar in the King Street ( King Street Chambers ) in the judicial district of Midland ( Midland Circuit). He became chairman of the Criminal Division of the Bar Association ( Chamber 's Criminal Law Practice) 1996. In the Society of Labour Lawyers, Bach is a member of the Executive Committee, as well as co-founder and chairman in East Midlands.

He held various offices in local politics. He was member of the Council ( Councillor ) in Leicester City Council ( 1976-1987 ). From 1991 to 1999 he was a Councillor of the Lutterworth Town Council. From 1993 to 1994 he was mayor ( Mayor ) of Lutterworth. Later he was a member of the Council ( Councillor ) in the Harborough District Council ( 1995-1999).

Bach came unsuccessfully in the lower house elections in 1979, 1983 and 1987. From 1998 to 1999 he was elected member of the National Policy Forum of the Labour Party. During the same period he was a member of the Economic Policy Commission.

He is a member of the Co-operative Party. He held various party posts. From 1989 to 1995 he was District Leader of the Labour Party in the district of Harborough; Since 2007 he hatt this function held again. Since 2007 he has been Chairman of the Labour Party in the constituency of South Leicestershire (South Leicestershire Constituency).

Bach lived in London, from the parliamentary year 2006/2007 in Leicestershire. Bach is married and has three children.

Membership in the House of Lords

Bach was appointed Life peer as Baron Bach of Lutterworth in the County of Leicestershire on 27 July 1998. On 28 July 1998, the official launch took place in the House of Lords with the support of Greville Janner Ewan, Baron Janner of Braunstone and Roy Hattersley. His inaugural address was delivered on 20 October 1998.

From 1999 to 2000, Bach spokesman for the government of Tony Blair for the home office. Between November 2000 and June 2001, he was Parliamentary Under Secretary of State ( Parliamentary Under- Secretary of State ) in the Lord Chancellor's Department. From June 2001 to 2005, Bach, Minister of State for Defence Procurement ( Minister of State for Defence Procurement). In Bach's time, the decision of the British government between the Boeing X -32 fell and the Lockheed X-35 designs for the Joint Strike Fighter project. From 2008 to 2010 he was, as the successor of Philip Hunt, then Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the British Ministry of Justice ( Parliamentary Under- Secretary of State for Justice) under Justice Secretary Jack Straw. Since 2010 he is opposition spokesman on justice.
