Winthrop Paul Rockefeller

Winthrop Paul "Win" Rockefeller ( born September 17, 1948 in New York City; † 16 July 2006 in Little Rock, Arkansas ) was an American politician. Between 1996 and 2006 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Arkansas.

Career

Winthrop Rockefeller was born into the famous Rockefeller family, whose most famous member John D. Rockefeller (1839-1937) was. Winthrop was his great-grandchildren. His eponymous father Winthrop Rockefeller, Sr. (1912-1973) was governor of Arkansas. Other family members were at the federal level and in several states politically active. The highest rank achieved his uncle Nelson Rockefeller, who was from 1974 to 1977 Vice President of the United States.

Rockefeller grew alternately in the United States and in Europe. He attended schools in New York State, in England and in Switzerland. At Texas Christian University, where he studied, among other things, how to run a ranch. Later he worked in this field. But he was also active in other sectors such as the auto trade. As a member of the Rockefeller family, he was of the house already very rich. In 2005 his wealth was estimated by Forbes magazine at $ 1.2 billion dollars. Politically, Rockefeller joined the Republican Party. Between 1981 and 1995 he worked for the police department of the state Arkansas. Following the resignation of Governor Jim Guy Tucker the Lieutenant Governor Mike Huckabee was succeeded according to the state constitution. The resulting vacant position of Deputy Governor was made after a special election to Winthrop Rockefeller. This office he held until his death on 16 July 2006. He died on the myeloproliferative syndrome.

Winthrop Rockefeller was married twice and had seven children.
