Winston Bryant

Winston Bryant ( born October 3, 1938 in Malvern, Arkansas) is an American lawyer and politician. Between 1981 and 1991 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Arkansas.

Career

Winston Bryant attended Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. After a subsequent law studies at the University of Arkansas and his admission to the bar he began to work in this profession. In 1970 he expanded his legal knowledge at the George Washington University in Washington DC In between, he served from 1963 to 1965 as a captain in the United States Army. As a lawyer, he worked for the Arkansas Insurance Commission in 1966. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. In 1967, he was Deputy Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas. Between 1968 and 1971 he was on the staff of U.S. Senator John Little McClellan. He was then to 1972 Deputy District Attorney in Hot Spring County.

Between 1973 and 1976, Bryant sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Arkansas; 1977 to 1979 he held the office of Secretary of State. In 1979 he was a member of the Constitutional Convention of his State. 1980 Bryant was elected to the side of Frank D. White Vice Governor of Arkansas. This post he held 1981-1991. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. Since 1983, he served under the new governor and later U.S. President Bill Clinton. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was between 1991 and 1999 Attorney General of his state. In 1996 he was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate. Since then, he resumed practicing as a private attorney. He is married and has a grown son.
