Maurice Britt

Maurice Lee " Footsie " Britt, Jr. ( born June 29, 1919 in Carlisle, Lonoke County, Arkansas, † November 26, 1995 in Little Rock, Arkansas ) was an American politician. Between 1967 and 1971 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Arkansas.

Career

Maurice Britt graduated from Lonoke High School and then studied at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He also played in 1941 as a football player in the NFL for the Detroit Lions. During the Second World War he was a captain in the United States Army. It was used in Europe and lost in combat his right arm. For his military services he was awarded the Medal of Honor.

After the war, Britt began studying law, but he broke off. In the following decades he worked for a furniture manufacturer. He then headed the company Beauty Guard Manufacturing Company, which produced aluminum products. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. In 1966 he was elected to the side of Winthrop Rockefeller as Vice Governor of Arkansas. This post he held 1967-1971. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate.

Between 1971 and 1985, was Maurice Britt District Director of the Small Business Administration. In 1986, he ran unsuccessfully for the office of governor of Arkansas. He died on November 26, 1995 in a hospital in Little Rock from heart failure.
