Geography

The village lies in the valley of the upper stream Schill (formerly Reed Bach) that join at the northwestern edge of the village with another stream to Hopbach (formerly Rotenbach ) and about 1000 m wide forms the border with the military training area in the north of Ohrdruf. It flows north from Ohrdruf to the flow of the military site in the Ohra. In the south of the village lies the northern slope of the Thuringian Forest. The biggest part of its territory is occupied by the military training area. Through the village leads the L 2148, which of Ohrdruf (4 km north-west ) to Crawinkel ( 4km south ) leads. The northern outskirts of the village immediately adjacent to the restricted area of the military base.

History

At the beginning of the 9th century Wölfis is mentioned built in a directory of the Patrimony of the Archbishop Lull († 786) of Mainz Hersfeld Monastery as Wolfduze. To 1378 Cyzelo had Wiegleben of a Good to Wölfis. On January 20, 1735 a fire gathered the church together with parsonage, both school buildings and other 199 buildings in ruins. In addition, church records were destroyed by fire, one reason for the scarcity of information on the early history of the place. Using donations, a new church was built, which was consecrated on October 16, 1736. 1780 the site was largely back up and counted 294 homes, more than one third than in the previous century. 1780 had 1100 inhabitants of the village.

Clubs

Brass music tradition of the place since 1878. Wölfis There are today in the Children and Youth Orchestra and the Concert Wölfis. In these two orchestras, each with 40 members are active and appear at events in Thuringia and other states.
