Wolrad I, Count of Waldeck

Wolrad I of Waldeck (* 1399, † after February 1, 1475 ) was a son of Count Henry VII of Waldeck and his wife Margaret of Nassau- Wiesbaden- Idstein. He succeeded his father as the reigning Count of Waldeck Waldeck in 1442 - whether before or after his father's death has not been established. (The House Waldeck was divided since 1397 into an older and a younger line to Landau line of Waldeck. ) He had his baptismal name after his maternal grandfather, and he was thus the first of that name in waldeckischen Graf house.

Life

Even before he took office Wolrad was on May 19, 1434 by the Archbishop of Mainz, Conrad III. the supreme magistrate and bailiff of the main towns and castles hiss Amoeneburg, Battenberg, Neustadt, Rosenthal, Hausen ( Knüllwald ) Fritzlar, Jesberg, Hofgeismar, Naumburg, weather and Rhoden ( Diemelstadt ) and others and the associated villages and courts ordered. Family

Wolrad married in March 1440 by Barbara Wertheim, daughter of Count Michael I of Wertheim. Both entered the Kalandsbruderschaft in Korbach.
