Wolrad I, Count of Waldeck
Wolrad I of Waldeck (* 1399, † after February 1, 1475 ) was a son of Count Henry VII of Waldeck and his wife Margaret of Nassau- Wiesbaden- Idstein. He succeeded his father as the reigning Count of Waldeck Waldeck in 1442 - whether before or after his father's death has not been established. (The House Waldeck was divided since 1397 into an older and a younger line to Landau line of Waldeck. ) He had his baptismal name after his maternal grandfather, and he was thus the first of that name in waldeckischen Graf house.
Life
Even before he took office Wolrad was on May 19, 1434 by the Archbishop of Mainz, Conrad III. the supreme magistrate and bailiff of the main towns and castles hiss Amoeneburg, Battenberg, Neustadt, Rosenthal, Hausen ( Knüllwald ) Fritzlar, Jesberg, Hofgeismar, Naumburg, weather and Rhoden ( Diemelstadt ) and others and the associated villages and courts ordered. According to him, however, has already appeared in 1438, Count Johann II of goats grove in these offices and already in 1439 Landgrave Ludwig I of Hesse.
After Wolrads death by his son Philip I succeeded as Count of Waldeck Waldeck. When he died later in the same year 1475, Philip brother Philip II was regent for Philip I. still infant son Henry VIII in 1486 to Henry VIII and Philip II divided the county: Henry VIII got the southern half of Waldeck- Wildungen, Philip II while the northern part of Waldeck -Eisenberg received.
Family
Wolrad married in March 1440 by Barbara Wertheim, daughter of Count Michael I of Wertheim. Both entered the Kalandsbruderschaft in Korbach.
The couple had the following children

- Philip II (* March 3, 1453; † October 26, 1524 ), canon 1475 VIII as guardian of his nephew Henry Regent of Waldeck Waldeck, 1486 Count of Waldeck -Eisenberg
- Elisabeth ( * 1455, † March 15, 1513 ), married on October 15, 1471 Duke Albrecht II of Brunswick - Grubenhagen ( 1419-1485 ) and lived after his death at the Old Castle ( Osterode )
