World Covered Court Championships
The Tennis World Indoor Championships (English World Covered Court Championships ) was a tennis tournament, which were held in various European cities, 1913-1923.
History
In 1913 it was decided with the founding of the International Tennis Federation, the introduction of three world championships in tennis: the lawn World Championships ( Wimbledon Championships ), the hard-court world championships ( in Paris, forerunner of the French Open ), and the World Indoor Championships. The American Tennis Association USNLTA did not want to accept that so that his U.S. Championships were declared a second-rate tournament, and therefore refused to join the ITF.
In the period following the World Indoor Championships were discharged, interrupted by the First World War in various European cities. The court surface was, as it was then spread in the hall, a wooden floor. 1923 was dropped, the system of three World Cups with the accession of the United States to the ITF and instead the championships of England ( Wimbledon Championships ), France, Australia and the United States to the rank of highest Championships. The Indoor Championships have been set.
