World record progression 50 metres freestyle

The swimming world records over 50 -meter freestyle are the best in the swimming discipline 50m freestyle swum times. They are recognized by the International Swimming Federation FINA. World records are kept separate for long paths ( 50 m) and short tracks ( 25 m) and separately for men and women. The following are the world-record development is listed for the respective first recognized world record.
