World Series of Snooker 2008/2009

This article deals with the five tournaments of the World Series of Snooker in the 2008 /09 season, when they co-organized by the multiple world champion John Higgins tournament series was first held. First tournament in St. Helier

The first tournament - and thus the beginning of the World Series of Snooker at all - took place on the British island of Jersey on 21 and 22 June 2008. Venue was the Fort Regent in St Helier town.

A small sensation there were in round 1, as former world champion Ken Doherty clearly lost to local wild card player Gary Britton, while the other three professional players effortlessly reached the semi-finals. In the semifinals, Gary Britton, though this 2-0 against Mark Selby, but the game lost with 2:5. With the same result, John Higgins was able to beat Shaun Murphy.

Second tournament in Berlin

The second tournament took place in Berlin on 12 and 13 July 2008. Venue was the Tempodrom, which offered about 1,600 spectators.

In the most exciting and best quarterfinal match Lasse Munster man against John Higgins missed the semi-finals after a 3-1 lead in a dramatic final stage. The third tournament was held in Warsaw on 25 and 26 October 2008.

The professionals have their billing as favorites and moved all without frame loss in the semi-finals. Ding Junhui won the final against Ken Doherty from Ireland 6-4.

4th tournament in Moscow

The fourth and final tournament took place in Moscow on 22 and 23 November 2008. Venue was the Krilya Sovetov Sports Arena.

This time, only three instead of four professionals were there for five wildcard player; Graeme Dott had to cancel at short notice and had been replaced by the 14 -year-old Israeli Shachar Ruberg. Due to scheduling difficulties, there was no TV coverage. John Higgins clearly won the tournament, he was there not a single frame from.

Final tournament in Portimão

The finale was held from 8th to 10th May, 2009 Portimão, Portugal. Venue was the Pavilhão Arena.

All eight professional players who were in the first four tournaments without, were also in the finals of the party. Here, the tournament tree was arranged so that the four professionals who have shown in the previous tournaments, the best performance (Higgins, Ding, Selby and Dott ), initially had a bye, while the other four ( Murphy, Doherty, Maguire and Davis) competed against each a qualifier. The qualifiers will turn first played in two groups of four for a place in the knockout stages. In the groups, everyone plays against everyone in a match best of 7 with only 6 red balls.

In group 1 were with Ryan Day, a professional snooker main tour with Gary Britton and Lasse Munster man two players who had recommended himself by good performances in St. Helier tournament or Berlin tournament for the final tournament, included; Michal Zielinski was added.
