Yang Kyong-il

Yang Kyong -il ( born August 7, 1987 in Pyongyang, North Korea) is a North Korean wrestler. He was 2009 World Champion in free style bantamweight. He also won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Career

Yang Kyong -il began in 2004 with the rings. The stocky, 1.57 meter tall athlete prefers the free style and goes for the University Sports Club Pyongyang at the start. There the student of Ri Yong -Nam is trained.

In the junior level he could achieve in international championships no success, what does it matter that North Korea did not participate in these championships. Therefore, he had aged 20 years in 1987 his debut at one of the major international events, the World Championships in Baku. He arrived there in the bantamweight title victories over Alexander Chawelow from Ukraine and Namig Abdullayev from Azerbaijan. However, after a defeat in his third bout against Andy Yoen Moreno Gonzalez from Cuba, he left and came only to 14th place.

In 2008, Yang Kyong -il qualified with a win at the Qualifying Tournament in Warsaw for participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing. He was in Warsaw, inter alia, Bessarion Gotschaschwili from Georgia, Ramil Rejepow from Turkmenistan and Petru Toarca from Romania behind. In Beijing he lost in his first fight against Namig Sewdimow from Azerbaijan with 1:2 rounds ( 3:6 techn. Dots). Since Sewdimow not reached the final, Yang was eliminated and finished in 12th place.

But a big surprise he made then at the 2009 World Championships in Herning / Denmark. He won there Bantamweight over Naranbaatar Bayaraa from Mongolia, Krasimir Krastanow from the UK, Nikolai Aiwasan from Ukraine, Ryswan Hadschyjeu from Belarus and Sezen Akgül from Turkey and became world champion. It is worth noting was the fact that he led his fights, far superior to the final battle, and came to the high point victories.

It is therefore somewhat surprising that he in New Delhi this string of victories could not continue in the Asia Cup in 2010 and the semi-finals suffered a defeat by Shinichi Yumoto from Japan. He therefore arrived in New Delhi only on the 3rd place. His world title from the year 2009, Yang Kyong - Il in Moscow in 2010 not defend, because North Korea did not participate in this championship. But in November 2010 he was at the Asian Games in Guangzhou at the start and was there behind Dilshod Mansurov from Uzbekistan to 2nd place. In 2011 he was in Tashkent Asian champions before Yasuhoro Inaba from Japan. At the World Championships 2011 in Istanbul, he was back at the start and defeated in his first fight Dilshod Mansurov. But in his next fight he lost against Hassan Rahimi from Iran and had to retire because Rahimi did not reach the final. He got away with it only to 17th place.

In April, Yang Kyong -il qualified with a tournament victory in Taiyuan / China for participation in the Olympic Games in London. In London, he came to a victory over Dilshod Mansurov, then defeated by Djamal Otarsultanow from Russia and then secured with victories in the consolation round of Saatele Sem Shilimela, Namibia and Daulet Nijasbekow from Kazakhstan still an Olympic bronze medal.
