Yıldırım Akbulut

Yıldırım Akbulut ( born 1935 in Erzincan ) was 1989-1991 Prime Minister of Turkey.

Yıldırım Akbulut is a member of Anavatan Partisi ( Motherland Party ). The son of a postal worker studied law at Istanbul University and then worked as a lawyer.

His first political office was that of deputies in the provincial parliament of Erzincan. Later he was Minister of the Interior in the cabinet of Turgut Özal. December 24, 1987 to November 9, 1989, he was President of the Parliament.

After the election as President Özal Turkey Akbulut became Prime Minister and held this office from 9 November 1989 to June 23, 1991 held. However, Özal practiced in this period continue to influence the affairs of government, while Akbulut showed hardly own profile.

From 20 May 1999 until 30 September 2000 Akbulut was the second time President of the Parliament. Yıldırım Akbulut is married and father of three children.

Akbulut was awarded in 1999 by the Romanian President Emil Constantinescu of the State Order.
