You've Got a Friend

You've Got a Friend is a song by Carole King. The piece was written by King published in 1971 on her album Tapestry. But the song was known only by the James Taylor version, which was also published in 1971 on his album Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon. His version reached number one on the U.S. singles chart and number four on the UK Singles chart.

The song was awarded two Grammy Awards. The King received one in the category " Song of the Year " and the other Taylor in the category " Best Male Vocal Performance of the Year - Pop ". The piece was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Dusty Springfield version

Even before Taylor coverte Dusty Springfield song for their third album with Atlantic Records, but neither album nor single were released, as it came to a dispute between Springfield and the record company. Finally, the single was 1999, shortly after the death of Springfield, released on a deluxe set of Springfields published 1968 album Dusty in Memphis as a bonus track from the label Rhino Records.

VH1 Divas version

On April 14, 1998, Céline Dion, Shania Twain, Gloria Estefan and Carole King sang the piece VH1 Divas Live Concert at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. On October 6, the version was released on CD and DVD, where Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin were heard. Aretha Franklin coverte the song one more time, but alone.

Live versions

There are also numerous live versions of the song that have been published, such as 1972 by Donny Hathaway on his live album These Songs for You, Live!. Barry Manilow sang the song along with Melissa Manchester on his album Duets. The Japanese singer -songwriter Chihiro Onitsuka interpreted 've Got a Friend on their tour in 2008 and released their live version on the DVD Nine dirts and Snow White Flickers.
