Yun OS

Aliyun OS is a Linux distribution for smartphones. The open- source operating system was brought after three years in development, in July 2011 of AliCloud, a subsidiary of Alibaba Group, the Chinese market. Initially conceived as an alternative to the previously dominant there operating system Android by Google Inc., it is to be sold in the future but also internationally. Aliyun OS puts an emphasis on cloud capabilities instead of downloadable apps (the word means yun well as cloud cloud).

Aliyun has a Linux kernel and provides a Java VM ready for native apps and support for Web applications. In addition Aliyun contains some frameworks from the Android operating system, so that some, but all Android apps can not be used under Aliyun.

Google sees Aliyun as an incompatible fork of Android and has therefore in 2012 the manufacturer Acer threatened with the withdrawal of Android license if he should bring a Aliyun - based smartphone on the market. Acer is a member of the Open Handset Alliance and is committed to not publish smartphones with incompatible Androidversionen.
