Yuri Babenko

Yuri Ivanovich Babenko (Russian Юрий Иванович Бабенко; born January 2, 1978 in Penza, Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who is under contract with the OHK Dynamo in the Kontinental Hockey League since 2010.

Career

Yuri Babenko began his career as a hockey player with Krylia Sovetov Moscow, for which he gave his debut in the 1995/96 season in the Russian Super League, where he was in his rookie year in 21 - time on the ice. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1996 in the second round than a total of 51 players from the Colorado Avalanche. First, the attacker but spent another year in Russia. After he started the 1997/98 season at Krylia Sovetov Moscow again, he finished this when the second team of HK CSKA Moscow in the third-class Perwaja league.

In the summer of 1998, the links Sagittarius went to North America, where he worked for the Plymouth Whalers in the Canadian top junior league Ontario Hockey League was a season-long active. The next four years was the Russian for Colorado's farm team of the American Hockey League, Hershey Bears on the ice. He also debuted in the 2000/ 01 season in the National Hockey League, where he stayed dot and impunity in three games.

In summer 2002, Babenko returned to his native Russia, where he was taken from HK Dynamo Moscow under contract, the Russian champion at season's end. During the season, he was, however, transferred to their league rivals Chimik Woskressensk. It was followed by two years in the Super League at HK MVD Tver, before the center before the season was committed by the Russian champions HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk 2007/ 08. With Magnitogorsk he won in January 2008, the IIHF European Champions Cup. The 2008/09 season began, the former NHL player with Metallurg in the newly formed Kontinental Hockey League, but moved after only five appearances for their league rivals SKA St. Petersburg, where he finished the season. For the season 2009/10 he returned to his former club HK MVD who had been resettled in the meantime after Balaschicha. With the HK MVD he was at the end of the season runner-up.

For the season 2010/11 HK MVD Balaschicha was merged with the HK Dynamo Moscow and Babenko received a contract with their successor OHK Dynamo team, for which he has since then played in the KHL.
