History

1211 Zappendorf was first mentioned. The mining industry has long been one of the most important sectors of the economy, but today has been completely set up.

Until the formation of the unified community Salzatal on 1 January 2010 Zappendorf was an independent municipality in the administrative community Western Saalkreis. Mayor of Zappendorf Werner Witkowsky.

Culture and sights
