Bennstedt is a place of unity in the community Salzatal Saale district, in Saxony -Anhalt ( Germany ).

Geography

Bennstedt is located about ten kilometers west of Halle ( Saale) and about nine kilometers east of Seeburg.

History

Already around the year 800 people have settled in the area Bennstedts. In a resulting 881-899 Directory of tithing of Hersfeld Monastery ( Hersfeld tithe directory) is first mentioned as requiring a tenth place Bannungestät documented in the frieze field Bennstedt.

From 1829 began with the underground lignite mining in the pit Sophie, who had built the estate owners cook. In the 20th century coal was mined in the open pit, which rest holes testify.

Village Church

The local church was first mentioned in 1298. It is a single nave, erected mainly of boulders in the first half of the 13th century religious building with a square tower choir. The choir has been added in the 14th century. The tower sound arcades are from the 13th century, on the south side of the ship a late Gothic portal. The north side of the tower is characterized by an annex with the Patronatsloge. To the west, joins the nave to the crypt cultivation. This is passable, it includes two magnificent stone sarcophagi and five grave stones of the family of Bieberstein and six grave plates of Bennstedter landowner family cooking.

The nave was rebuilt after a fire in 1681 the following year in the Baroque style.

The interior is dominated by a powerful altarpiece in the chancel of the superimposed images of the Last Supper, the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ shows. On the horseshoe-shaped gallery, there is a built in 1775 by organ builder Johann Christoph Zuber beer organ.

In 2003, a development association was founded with the goal of restoration of the church.
