Zemplínske Hradište

Zemplínske Hradište ( until 1948 slovak " Hardište "; Hungarian Hardicsa ) is a town in eastern Slovakia, with 1162 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), the Region belongs to Okres Trebišov, a district of Košice.

Geography

The municipality is located in the East Slovakian lowland near the river Trnavka which opens into the Ondava, at an altitude of 103 m nm The center is located five kilometers south of Trebišov and about 50 kilometers east of Kosice.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1328 as Hradischa and belonged to the estate of Trebišov. It is believed that the name was derived from a Slavic castle wall. 1828 are listed 154 houses and 1,136 inhabitants.

Until 1948, the day the municipality Malčice belonging district Hradistska Molva belonged to the place.

In the municipality of Zemplínske Hradište is a large stork colony, so the church is dubbed "the Bocianopolis " (literally Stork city).
