Zlatá Koruna

Zlata Koruna ( Golden Crown German ) is a municipality with 684 inhabitants in the Czech Republic. It is located 6 km northeast of Cesky Krumlov on the edge of Blanský and belongs to the Okres Český Krumlov on.

Geography

The place is located in 473 m asl the left side of the Vltava River in the loop and is, except in the west, surrounded on three sides by the river. Neighboring towns are Nová Koruna in the West, where there is also the train stop is located, and Rájov beyond the Vltava River in the south.

History

The town was founded as Grange west by Přemysl Otakar II in 1263 the monastery Sancta Corona. The king made by Cistercian monks from the Abbey of Heiligenkreuz cultivate the land and thus ran his own settlement policy to counter a further expansion of the sphere of influence of the Witigonen. After the destruction of the still under construction monastery by the Cumans it was Wenceslas II rebuild. 1291 the construction was completed. By the 14th century donated Bavors III. 1420 the Hussites were a, looted, pillaged and plundered the monastery. After the founding of Czechoslovakia 1918 Golden Crown belonged to the region of Český Krumlov. After the Munich Agreement, it remained in Czechoslovakia between 1939-1945 and belonged to the political Budějovice in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. 1940 the Gestapo confiscated the monastery Golden Crown. After the Second World War, Golden Crown / Zlata Koruna returned to the rebuilt Czechoslovakia; 1946 was the expulsion of the German population.

After the renovation of the monastery buildings drew 1979, the Scientific State Library České Budějovice in the monastery, which was founded in 1995 declared a national cultural monument.
