Zoran Kalinić

Zoran Kalinic (Serbian Зоран Калинић, born July 20, 1958 in Subotica, Yugoslavia ) is a former Yugoslav tennis players. In doubles, he is a world champion and two-time European champion. Today ( 2006), he oversees the national team of Serbia.

National success

Kalinic won several times the championship of Yugoslavia. 1977 and 1981 he won with the club Spartak Subotica STK - which he joined as a 13 -year-old - the European Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.

European Championships

In 1976 he was European champion in the junior singles and mixed ( with Erzebet Palatinus ) in Austrian Mödling. In the senior, he participated in seven European Championships between 1980 and 1996. 1982 and 1984, he won the doubles competition each with his compatriot Dragutin Šurbek. He repeated this success in 1994 with the Greeks Kalinikos Kreanga.

World Championships

Between 1977 and 1995 he took part in ten World Championships. He achieved his greatest success at the 1983 World Championships in Tokyo. Here he became world champion in the men's doubles with Dragutin Šurbek. In the 1989 World Cup, he was runner-up in doubles (with Leszek Kucharski, POL ) - they lost to the Germans Jörg Rosskopf / Steffen Fetzner - and in mixed ( with Gordana Perkučin, YUG ). With the Yugoslav team he won silver at the 1991 World Cup.

Later he took part in more senior World Cups. He lost in the singles final in 2004 " over 40 years " against Mikael Appelgren. In 2006 he was in Bremen in the seniors " over 40 " once again double world champion Thierry Miller ( Switzerland ).

Other International Tournaments

Four times Kalinic won the Balkan Championships in individual (1980, 1982, 1983, 1985), three times in duplicate ( 1979, 1982, 1991), five times in the Mixed (1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1985). The best placement in the Europe Top -12 he scored in 1982 and 1984, each with rank seventh in the Olympic Games in 1988 and 1992, he retired in the first round.

In 1993, Kalinic from Red Star Belgrade to the German club TTC Weinheim in the 2nd Bundesliga. Here he remained until 1995, after which he went to Austria.

Play

Kalinic is left-handed. He holds the bat in the Chinese penholder style. With 1.95 meters tall, he is one of the longest table tennis players in the world rankings.

Private

Kalinic is married to Dragica. He has a son named Uros (* 1986). He studied economics.
