Zürcher Unterland

The Zurich lowlands is a region in the northwest of the Canton of Zurich. It essentially comprises the districts Bülach and Dielsdorf. The Rafzerfeld north of the Rhine is also counted for the lowlands in the rule.

Geography

The Zurich lowlands (Swiss German Zuri- lowlands ) is bordered on the west by the District Zurzach (Canton Aargau ), on the north by the district of Waldshut (Baden- Württemberg, Germany ), to the east by the two schaffhausischen communities Rüdlingen and book mountain and to the Zürcher Weinland ( District Andelfingen ), to the south by the city of Zurich and the District Dietikon, as well as in the southeast to the Zurich Oberland.

With the two country towns Eglisau and rain mountain, the historically important town of Bülach, the three river landscape with Rhine, Töss and smooth and varied natural landscapes (among Swiss bird conservation center in Neeracherried ), the region is also popular as a leisure and tourism region.

The centers of Zurich Low country are located in the district capitals Bülach and Dielsdorf. Also Eglisau, Kloten and rain village take local center features true.

Economy

The Zurich lowlands is increasingly characterized since the 1950s by the international airport Zurich. Various international companies have settled around the airport.

The south-east, the city of Zurich nearby communities were absorbed by the agglomeration and form a part of the city of Zurich. In the north of the Zurich lowlands until today is still rural in character, though, with obvious signs of urbanization.

Since the mid-19th century, the heyday of the printed press in Switzerland, many newspapers and magazines have disappeared. After several mergers left are:

  • Zurich Low Countries ( until 1949: Bülach - Dielsdorfer weekly )
  • New Bülacher daily paper (up to 1957: Bülach - Dielsdorfer Volksfreund )

Education

In Bülach is named after the Zurich lowlands Kantonsschule Zurich lowlands is ( KZU ).
