Olympic champion was the team from Russia, with Garry Kasparov ( 6 ½ points from 10 games), Vladimir Kramnik (8 of 11), Evgeny Bareev ( 5 ½ out of 10), Alexei Dreev ( 5 ½ out of 8), Sergei Tiviakov ( 6 ½ out of 9) and Peter Svidler ( 5 ½ out of 8) took.

The German men were ranked number 16 and played with Artur Yusupov (7 points from 13 games ), Robert Hübner ( 7 of 11 ), Eric Lobron ( 6 ½ out of 11 ), Christopher Lutz (4 of 8 ), Gerald Hertneck ( 5 ½ out of 8) and Stefan Kindermann (2 ½ out of 5).

Teams Women

In the women won Georgia (32 Brett Points) Hungary (31) and China ( 27). Georgia played with Maia Chiburdanidze ( 8 ½ points from 11 games, Bronze ), Nana Ioseliani ( 8 ½ out of 11, Silver), Ketevan Arakhamia - Grant ( 8 out of 11, bronze) and Nino Gurieli (7 of 9 bronze).

The German women were ranked number 7 and played with Ketino Kachiani - Gersinska ( 7 ½ points from 13 games), Jordanka Micic (7 of 12 ), Gisela fish Dick ( 3 ½ out of 8) and Marina Olbrich ( 6 ½ out of 9).

The Chess Olympiad is a team tournament. In Moscow, 14 rounds were played according to the Swiss system. In the Swiss system each evaluation teams are equal among themselves drawn. Each team (Team ) was per team fight use four players. The team competition four single points (board points) will be awarded, which are given in the following table of the 14 laps under the code of the opponent team. The code is a short code for the teams. The result of a team match, the team points (win = 2, draw = 1, loss = 0). In addition, the numbers of recovered, indecisive and lost battles are listed ( = -).
