Asbach-Sickenberg

Asbach- Sick is a municipality in the administrative community uder in the Thuringian district of calibration field. Asbach and Sickenberg are two of the few villages in the district of calibration field that do not belong to the historical calibration field.

Geographical location

Asbach- Sickenberg is close to the Hessian- Thuringian border in the northern foothills of the ridge Gobert. By Asbach the old grove creek flows as the eastern and extending through the near Allendorf tributary of the river Werra. Sickenberg is above the Valley of Walse, another eastern Werra tributary.

Community structure

The municipality was formed in 1950 through the merger of the previously independent political communities Asbach and Sickenberg.

History

Asbach was the first time in 1284 and Sickenberg first mentioned in documents in 1298. The places were part of the Office and Castle district of the Landgrave's Castle Old stone. Since the 16th century both villages formed a church. The previously Hessian villages Asbach and Sickenberg came in 1945 in the wake of border corrections ( Wanfrieder agreement ) to the Soviet occupation zones, and thus to Thuringia. To a name change occurred on 1 May 1992, when the municipality of Asbach / Sickenberg in Asbach- Sickenberg renamed.

Culture and sights

Museums

  • Immediately after the opening of the inner German border, " Grenzmuseum Schifflersgrund " was born. It lies between Allendorf and Sickenberg directly to the former inner- German border. The still inhabited in the 1940s and used as a forest house castle ruins Ancient stone has been inaccessible through the boundary layer and in 1990 was already fallen into disrepair.
  • The heritage-listed farm Sickenberg - with historic bakery. In Hofcafe operators have set up an exhibition on the history of the place Sickenberg.
