Hohengandern

Hohengandern is a municipality in the Thuringian district of calibration field. It is part and office of the Management Community Hanstein - Rusteberg.

Geographical location

Hohengandern is located about 1.2 km east of the border triangle Hesse Lower Saxony and Thuringia, just west of the small linen influx Mühlbach. The village is located northeast of up to 325 m above sea level. NN high elevation of the old wood and 375 m above sea level. NN Neuseesen high - Werle houses heights to about 210 to 225 m altitude. The highest point in the district is the 369 m high Heuberg in the southeast.

To the north are low Gandern and Besenhausen ( in Lower Saxony), northeast lies Kirchgandern, east Arenshausen, southeast Under Stone, south Born Hagen, south-southwest Neuseesen (all in Thuringia), south-west is the Arnstein Castle, west is Eichenberg Station and northwest Hebenshausen (all in Hesse ). Through the village leads to the section Arnstein Castle - Arenshausen the highway and 80 in the section Arenshausen Eichenberg the hall - Kassel railway.

Hohengandern was first mentioned in 1376 as a mockery Gandern. A first mention in 1127 may also refer to the neighboring Gandern villages. The place was until the secularization part of Kurmainz and 1802-1945 part of the Prussian Province of Saxony. 1856, the village church was built Hohengandern.

From 1945 Hohengandern was part of the Soviet zone of occupation and since 1949 part of the GDR. From 1961 until the turn and reunion 1989/1990 the place was near the Inner German border. On November 12, 1989, a transition between Hohengandern and the Hessian Neu-Eichenberg was opened. Since 1990 Hohengandern is part of the newly founded Federal State of Thuringia.

The square quarry stone of the church tower with verschieferter hood is a senior construction time. The exposed brick ashlar of the ship was built in 1856 in late classical forms. Großrundbögige windows provide natural light to the room.
