Uder

Uder is a municipality in the administrative community uder in the Thuringian district of calibration field. It is the seat of the administrative community. Uder is the second largest village of the district calibration field.

Geographical location

Uder lies in the valley of the leash about 4 kilometers west of Heiligenstadt. The landscape is dominated by the surrounding mountains, including the Elisabeth height ( 430 m ) in the east, the Höhberg (about 450 m) in the Southeast and Whose (344 m) in the north.

Still belongs to the local situation of the westernmost weiler like Schönau.

History

Uder

The first mention Uders was in 1089 as Udra. The name changed several times in the course of history. So the place 1137-1158 was designated as othera, 1162 as Udera 1205 as Odra or Odera, 1241 again as Udera and 1588 as Ohder. The village was until 1802 owned by the archdiocese Kurmainz, landlords were the Junker of Volkerode. 1802 to 1807 the place became Prussian and then came to the Kingdom of Westphalia (Canton Udra ). From 1815 to 1945 he was part of the Prussian province of Saxony.

Southeast of uder there is the hall called " Old Castle " at the foot of the mountain ridge " Elisabethhöhe ". It is believed that on this ridge, a fortress stood. By quarries the environment is greatly disturbed. Remains of a sandstone wall were found in the 20th century. From Leinatal still draw walls and caves up to the Elisabethhöhe. After 1945, the place was only in the Soviet occupation zone and from 1949 in the GDR. Schönau

The Schönau was first documented in 1318 as " Schonawe ". The formerly independent village was incorporated into uder. The site currently has 72 inhabitants.

Coat Explanation: The silver wave bar represents the position of uder on the leash, the six-spoked silver wheel is the Wheel of Mainz, which expresses the affiliation of the village over the centuries to the electorate of Mainz. The silver pilgrim or scallop is the patronal feast of the local Church to James the Great is, the blue ground symbolizes the consecration of uder and the entire calibration field of the Virgin Mary.

Traffic

Attractions

Catholic Church of St. James, built in 1910 on the site of two previous buildings from the 12th and 17th centuries. Facilities include a Baroque high altar and a Gothic carved.

Uder is located at St. James. Since 1998 a stele shows the way to Santiago de Compostela.

A special kind of attraction is the Lourdes grotto of natural stone on the hill Marie, former cat's head. It was built in 1907 by members of the Workers' and gymnastics club. The large statue of Mary was obtained directly from Lourdes. It was a gift from some Lourdes pilgrims. At the church festival of the year 1908, the grotto was consecrated. The Stationsweg to the Grotto was also inaugurated in 1908.

The Ossenritter Memorial ( creator: the native Uderaner Prof. Dr. Heimo Ertl ) was erected in Leinepark 2009 - it is reminiscent of the legend, that the then Schulze ( mayor) of uder, Hans Francis Hare, 1153 by Emperor Frederick Barbarossa in the absence of gallant horse was beaten on an ox knighted. Since then, the inhabitant of uder be called by nickname " Ossenritter ".
