Kella

Kella is a municipality in the Thuringian district of calibration field. It belongs to the administrative community Ershausen / Geismar.

Geography

Kella is a scattered village. It is in the southern calibration field and bordered to the north Pfaffschwende, to the east by Geismar and Großtöpfer and to the south and west on the community Meinhard in Hesse. The district area of the municipality lies 230-520 meters. Due to the location of Kellaer creek that empties into Schwebda in Hesse in the Werra flows.

The north and west of the district is formed by the Gobert, a ridge of limestone. It is both a border between Thuringia and Hesse. In addition to limestone rock also comes as sandstone.

History

Kella was first mentioned on November 9, 1141 Cella. This happened in a certificate issued in Erfurt Archbishop of Mainz Markolf, the Count Siegfried of Boyneburg the foundation of the monastery of St. Blaise in Northeim and its possessions confirmed. Kella was among the possessions of the monastery. Its sovereign until the secularization Kurmainz. From 1802 to 1945 the site was then part of the Prussian Province of Saxony. From 1945 Kella was part of the Soviet zone of occupation and since 1949 part of the GDR. From 1961 until the turn and reunion 1989/1990 the place was close to the German border. Since 1990 Kella is part of the newly founded Federal State of Thuringia. 1996 Kella was in competition "Our village is beautiful " as the prettiest village in Thuringia.

The name probably derives from throat = ravine, because the village is located in a narrow valley. In Regiolekt the village is called Kalle.
