Burgenland local elections, 2007

The municipal elections in Burgenland were held in 2007 on October 7, 2007, and were held in 170 of the 171 municipalities in Burgenland simultaneously with Mayor direct elections. Basis

The implementation of municipal and mayoral elections were decided by the provincial government of Burgenland and on 24 July 2007 in the Official Gazette promulgated ( the day of election bid ). As election day was October 7, 2007, determined as the day of the narrow election of the mayor October 21, 2007. Are legal basis for the conduct of the elections, the municipal elections of Procedure 1992 ( GemWO 1992, State Gazette 54/1992 ) and the Burgenland voters Evidence Act ( State Gazette 5/1996 ).

Right to vote

In the municipal council and mayoral election in 2007 in Burgenland all men and women on the record date (24 July 2007) were active right, possessed Austrian nationality. Exercise of the option

Social Democratic Party of Austria

The Social Democratic Party of Austria occurred in 169 of the 170 participating communities during the 2007 elections. Only in Tobaj the SPÖ not approached in the list SPÖ & U as an independent grouping. Austrian People's Party

The Austrian People's Party came in 168 of the 170 participating communities during the 2007 elections. In Rohr im Burgenland came to a close ÖVP civil list, in the Social Democratic Party stronghold Tschanigraben there was no candidacy of the ÖVP. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ ) had been severely weakened by the change of many politicians for Free Citizens list in advance of the local elections. Free citizens list

The Free Citizens' List ( FBL ) was founded by former FPÖ politicians in March 2007 after internal party squabbles and numerous local liberal politicians could win their goals. This made it the FBL possible to stand for the first participation in municipal elections in 53 municipalities. The Greens

When the mayor direct elections on October 7, 2007, the SPÖ reached 86 mayors, the ÖVP accounted for 72 of the FBL and on other lists three mayors.
