Derhachi

Derhatschi (Ukrainian Дергачі; Russian Дергачи / Dergachi ) is a city in eastern Ukraine and the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons in the Kharkiv Oblast with 17,300 inhabitants ( 2013) on an area of ​​137.7 km ².

Geography

Derhatschi is located on the banks of the Lopan, a 96 km long tributary of the Udy, 12 km north- west of the Oblastzentrums Kharkiv and 36 km north-east of Ljubotyn.

History

Today Derhatschi was founded about 1660 by Cossacks. The first mention of the settlement dates back to the year 1689 in connection with the attack of the Crimean Tatars. In 1923 the village was the administrative center of the newly established Rajons.

The place was occupied twice by troops of the Wehrmacht:

  • October 22, 1941 to February 13, 1943 ( 478 days ) and
  • March 10, 1943 to August 19, 1943 (162 days).

In 1943, the village Derkatschi (Ukrainian Деркачі ) renamed Derhatschi and 1977, he received the status of a city.

Founded in 1923 and managed by Derhatschi from Rajon Derhatschi has an area of ​​900.1 km ² and a population of about 95,000 inhabitants. It is bordered on the east by the millions Kharkiv and in the north for a distance of 16 km to the Russian Belgorod Oblast. The population density is 105 inhabitants of Rajons per km ².
