The Ice Club Kaufbeuren (short ESDC, in reference to the historical name of Kaufbeuren and the mascot "Joker" also Buron Joker ) is an ice hockey club in the Bavarian Kaufbeuren. As Kaufbeurer eagle outsourced professional team of the club was a founding member of the German Ice Hockey League, but from which it was eliminated in the 1997/98 season after a bankruptcy. The ESV sat then continues the operation of gambling in the 1998/99 season. The ESDC carries out in the Savings Bank Arena. From December 2012 to October 2013 had the ESDC for almost a year for its home games and the training mode switch to ice rinks in surrounding cities (see # stadium closure from December 2012 to October 2013 ).

History

Early years of the Kaufbeurer hockey ( 1929-1969 )

1929 for the first time, an association was founded under the name ESV Kaufbeuren, which, however, was dissolved a few years later. Today's ESV Kaufbeuren was finally founded in 1946 by Georg Leitner junior, after the first game took place at the Kaiser pond near the swimming pool of Kaufbeuren. In 1956 started the construction of a synthetic ice rink at the current location to which the club moved after the rise in the Hockey Serie A, the top division at that time, in 1956. Two years later lost the ESDC with 12:32 against the EC Bad Tölz, which is the highest Association's internal defeat as well as the highest-scoring game and largest margin of victory or the heaviest defeat in the history of the highest German hockey game classes today. This record so far could not be surpassed in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga.

After descending from the newly founded Bundesliga the following year, the direct re- promotion, and in the following two years of relegation in the Bundesliga was celebrated under coach Xaver nonsense in the 1960/61 season. Performers of the team were Alfred Lutz Berger and Manfred Hubner, 1966 with 26 goals scorer in the Bundesliga was the first Kaufbeurer players. However, 1967 was taken by the ESV as a fifth in the first round only the 3rd place in Relegation round and had thus once again relegated to the Oberliga.

" Lift team " and establishment ( 1969-1994 )

Two years later was succeeded as premier league champions the promotion back to the Premier League, also the art ice rink was rebuilt in the current ice rink. In the same year the record attendance of 7,000 spectators was erected at a game against the rival Augsburger EV. In the following years the team shuttled repeatedly 1 to 2 Bundesliga until the club finally was able to establish in the 1980s permanently in hockey House of Lords. In the season 1980/81 the ESV Kaufbeuren first attracted into the newly created play-off round, where he failed at the end of the quarter-finals, while striker Dieter nurture was top scorer with 54 goals. 1984 reached the team with players such as Vladimír Martinec, Bohuslav Šťastný nurture and eventually even the semi-finals and eventually failed in the match for 3rd place at the Mannheim ERC, as well as a year later at the Cologne EC. In the season 1986/87 the club was a long time leader of the Bundesliga, but then slipped from 5th place and fails in the quarter-finals in four games at Mannheim.

The ESDC since 1979 1989 rose after a weak season for the first time again in the 2nd Bundesliga. The decisive final game against the Krefeld EV was lost with 2:3, a draw would have been in the league means. In 1990, the promotion to the Bundesliga was only on the last day given from the hand, as the ESV though went 4-1 against the EHC Freiburg lead but eventually lost with 4:5, while a draw would have been enough to climb. DEL and economic decline ( 1994-1998 )

For the 1994/95 season the outsourced professional team Kaufbeurer eagle was eventually founding member of the newly created German Ice Hockey League in which they twice reached the play-off quarter-final and one can back up the league in the play- downs. However, after only a few days of play 1997/98 season the Eagles had finally sign insolvency due to financial problems, after which the team was excluded from the game.

Fresh start and re-emergence (since 1998)

For the season 1998/99 put the first team of the ESV Kaufbeuren continue the operation of gambling in the fourth division 2 League South after the license was issued shortly before the season starts. As a master of the now renamed again in the Regional League, the team qualified for the 2000 Oberliga Süd, as runner-up was two years after the return to the 2nd Bundesliga are celebrated. In the following years the ESV was able to secure the league in each of the play- downs or the relegation round. In the summer of 2006, President Bernhard Pohl resigned after an internal power struggle with coach Peter Ustorf, the new chairman was Kurt Dollhofer. Thereupon the former Kaufbeurer defenders and national player Dieter Medicus, a member of the legendary defender formation " Kaufbeurer city wall " appointed team manager.

Medicus occurred in February 2007 from his office, after which he was replaced by Mike Bullard. After a 0-5 defeat in the seventh play -down game for ETC Crimmitschau the ESV Kaufbeuren eventually rose in the same year in the league, where he finished fourth in the 2007/ 08 main round, but in the quarter- finals at the Dresdner Eislöwen failed and thus could not qualify for the DEB - Pokal in the next season. The preliminary round of the 2008 /09 included the Joker off with a third place and reached the play-off final, which was won 3-1 games against EC Peiting. As a master of the Oberliga Süd, the ESV qualified so athletic for the second league season 2009/10. In the following three seasons of the ESV Kaufbeuren reached in each case, despite one of the lowest budgets of the league play-offs, but resigned in 2010 and 2011 against the Schwenningen Wild Wings in the quarterfinals; 2012 subject to the ESV Kaufbeuren the later runner- Star Bulls Rosenheim in the quarterfinals.

2012/13 season the second hockey league

The season was marked by the closure of the dilapidated stadium and led to the departure of top performers as the trainer Ken Latta and striker Kevin Saurette and Daniel amount.

The defender Bernhard Ebner, Marco Habermann and Jannik Woidtke of the squad in 2011/12 changed before the season in the DEL to Düsseldorf EC.

Maximilian Forster reinforced in November 2012, the squad. In December 2012, the striker Kevin Saurette left the club and moved to Northern Ireland to the Belfast Giants. In January 2013, Alexander Thiel and Dennis Patrick Kearney came as new arrivals.

In April 2013, the long-time head coach Ken Latta announced to its original oral contract extension and left the team.

Women's team

Since the 1985/86 season takes under the umbrella of the ESDC in part also a women's team in the game mode, which participated in the woman Hockey League as from the 1988/89 season. Venues

After the Second World War Hockey games were played in Kaufbeuren on the ice pond at Jordan Park, and later on a meadow in the municipal swimming pool and splashed on the imperial pond. With the rise in the league, a new careless art ice rink on the site of today's Sparkasse Arena was built in 1956, which offered 5,000 to 6,000 spectators. 1969 today, covered ice rink was opened on Berliner Platz, which currently bears the name Sparkassenarena and has a capacity of 4,600 seats.

Stadium lockout from December 2012 to October 2013

On 14 December 2012, the club owned ice rink located in Sparkassenarena was surprisingly blocked by the city Kaufbeuren for any use.
