FIL European Luge Natural Track Championships 1973

The 3rd FIL natural track luge European championship was held from 9 to 11 February 1973 in Taisten in Italy. As with the first two European championships titles went again this year in the single-seat heritage Advertise on Austria, while Italy for the second time won the doubles competition.

Single Seater Men

In the third natural track luge European championship gold medal went in the men's single-seater for the third time in Austria. As with the first European Championship in 1970 and this year, Ernst Stangl became European Champion. After the first two European Championships only Austrians had been standing on the podium, took the second place of Josef Trojer its first medal in the men's singles in Italy. Third was the Austrians Engelbert fox. The title defender Anton Obernosterer finished fourth.

Single Seater Ladies

As with the last European Championship 1971, there were also time only Austrians in the medals of the women's single-seat heritage advertising, b. The race was won by Elfriede Pirkmann before Berta Pichler and Martha Ruech. While Pirkmann in the following years won medals and in 1978 again became European champion, it was their only European Championship medal for Pichler and Ruech.

Two-seater

For the second time the title of European Champion in doubles went to Italy. Paul Mitterstieler and Peter Vötter won the gold medal ahead of the Austrians Anton Obernosterer and Gabriel Obernosterer, who had also achieved in the last European Championship in second place. The Italians Friedrich Wurzer and Bruno Wurzer won the bronze medal at their only European Championships. The defending champion Siegfried Graber and Joseph Niedermair were seventh.
