FIL European Luge Natural Track Championships 1977

The 6th FIL natural track luge European championship was held from 19 to 20 February 1977 in Siusi in Italy. All three European titles and eight of nine medals won the host nation Italy, which led for the first time in the medal table ahead of Austria.

Single Seater Men

At the 6th natural track luge European championship for the first time went all the medals in the men's singles to Italy. The Italian team even celebrated an eight -fold victory. Became European Champion for the second time after 1974 Erich Graber. The silver medal won Werner Beikircher and the bronze medal Damiano Lugon. For Beikircher this was his only European Championship medal, Lugon 1979 and 1989 European champion. The defending champion Alfred Kogler from Austria was not at the start.

Single Seater Ladies

The Italian Helene Mitterstieler won the Einsitzerbewerb the ladies and so was after five victories, the first Austrian natural track luge European Champion from Italy. Second place went to the European champion in 1973, Elfriede Pirkmann from Austria. They thus won the only medal for Austria at these championships. Bronze went to the Italian Rosa Schwingshackl.

Two-seater

As in the men's singles all medals were also in doubles for the first time in Italy. Robert Jud and Erich Graber defended their title successfully and were for the second time European champions. Johann Mair and Michael Plaikner won the silver medal, Hubert Mairamhof and Josef Ploner the bronze medal.
