FIL European Luge Natural Track Championships 1979

The 8th FIL natural track luge European championship was held from 27 to 28 January 1979 in Fénis in the Aosta Valley in Italy.

Single Seater Men

Italian quadruple victory in the men's single-seater: Damiano Lugon, who had already won two years earlier bronze, became European Champion in the single-seater. Silver won Otto Bachmann and bronze went to Andrea Millet. Lugon and Millet also won the silver medal in the doubles. The defending champion Hubert Mairamhof drove to 14th place

Single Seater Ladies

While the Italian masters celebrated a fourfold victory in the single-seater, it was with the ladies even a six -fold victory for the host nation Italy. Roswitha Fischer, who had already won silver in the previous year, was European champion in the single-seater. Second place went to Christa Fontana and rank three Herta Hafner. The defending champion Elfriede Pirkmann was ninth.

Two-seater

European Champion in doubles were Werner and Prantl Florian Prantl in Austria. So you won the only medal at these European Championships for Austria. Silver went to the Italians Damiano Lugon and Andrea Millet, who a few days later the first World Champions in doubles were. Oswald Pörnbacher and Erich Graber from Italy won the bronze medal. The defending champion Werner Mücke and Helmut Hutter finished fifth.
