Ifalik

The small atoll Ifalik (formerly also Ifaluk or Wilson Islands) is located in the east of the State of Yap, the Federated States of Micronesia, and thus belongs to the archipelago of the Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Geography

Ifalik is located 57 km east of Woleai and 730 southeast of the main island of Yap.

Of the original five islands on the reef, Flarik, Flalap, Imoei, Ella and Elanelap, the first three are grown together ( in the Eastern islands ) to the main island Flalap ( Ifalik ). The islands have a combined land area of 1.47 km ², while the lagoon measures 2.43 km ². The total area is approximately six square kilometers. The lagoon is up to 20 meters deep.

In the south of the atoll lies between the islands Ella in the west and the former island Imoei (now part of the main island Flalap ) the only boat passage through the reef into the lagoon. The passage is 45 meters wide and has a least depth of 5.5 meters. Elanelap in the West is the smallest island of the atoll. It is on the map (for example, 1900 ) is not shown.

At the 2000 census, the atoll has a population of 561, which in some villages on the west coast ( lagoon side ) had the main island living.
