Jedediah Slason Carvell

Jedediah Slason Carvell ( born March 16, 1832 in Newcastle, New Brunswick, † February 14, 1894 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Iceland ) was a Canadian politician. From 1879 to 1889 he was a Canadian senator, then he served until his death as Vice- Governor of the Province of Prince Edward Iceland.

After leaving school in Saint John and Fredericton Carvell lived temporarily in Australia, from 1855 in the U.S., where he worked as a timber merchant. In 1860 he settled in Charlottetown and built a successful import and export business on. As publisher of the newspaper The Examiner, he campaigned for the accession of the colony to Canada. In the years 1877 and 1878 he was mayor of Charlottetown, he also acted as Vice-Consul of Spain 's interests in the province. In December 1879, he was appointed senator in the Canadian Parliament, he was a member of the conservative faction. Governor General Lord Stanley Carvell sworn on September 2, 1889 as the Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Iceland. This representative office he held four and a half years until his death.
