Joe Deakin

Joe Deakin (actually Joseph Edmund Deakin, born February 6, 1879 in Shelton, Stoke -on-Trent, † June 30, 1972 in Dulwich, London Borough of Southwark ) was a British middle and long distance runners.

In 1905, he won, starting for England, the bronze medal at the Nations Cross.

At the Olympic Games in London in 1908, he was sixth over 1500 m. In the three-mile team run he reached the finish line first, bringing with Archie Robertson and William Coales who followed in second and third place, the gold medal for the team of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. On the afternoon of the same day, the first round of the five-mile run was scheduled. Deakin, who celebrated extensively, went to the start, but did not reach the goal.

Joe Deakin launched for the Herne Hill Harriers and moved to the Olympics for the Surrey AC. Until his 90th birthday, he took part in competitions.
