Kamenický Šenov

Šenov ( German Steinschönau, even stone -Schönau ) is a city of Okres Ceska Lipa in the Liberec Region in the north of the Czech Republic on the southern slope of the Lusatian Mountains. It lies in the valley of the creek Šenovský (stone Schönau Bach) between the mountains Kameník ( Wolfsberg ) Smrčník and Šenovský vrch.

History

The settlement was first mentioned in 1362 and has developed since the 16th century next to Nový Bor became a center of glass processing. Since 1856 here is a Glasfachschule resident who was in 1926 that merged in Haida; here were in the period up to World War II, among others Eiselt the brothers worked. 1900 Steinschönau was appointed to the city.

The city received in 1886 by the Bohemian Northern Railway a railway connection of Kamenice. From 1902, the line was continued by the local railway Bohemian Leipa - Steinschönau to the district town of Ceske Lipa. 1979, passenger services were set. Today there is a museum railway on the remaining piece of Kamenice after Šenov.

In the center is the church of Saint John the Baptist by 1718.

During the Nazi occupation was in Steinschönau a satellite camp of Flossenbiirg. Because of the Beneš decrees, the German inhabitants were expropriated in 1945 and sold.

The city Šenov consists of the districts Šenov ( Steinschönau ) and Prácheň ( Parchen ), at the same time also form Katastralbezirke.
