Pawnee County (Nebraska)

Pawnee County is a county located in the state of Nebraska in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Pawnee City.

Geography

The County is located in southeastern Nebraska, on the south by Kansas, is in the east 50 km away from Missouri and has an area of ​​1121 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. It borders in Nebraska clockwise to the following counties: Richardson County, Gage County, Johnson County and Nemaha County.

History

Pawnee County was formed in 1854. It was named after the people of Pawnee. On May 30, 1879 tornado moved through the Irving Richarson County. This tornado reached wind speeds of up to 420 km / h, which means a classification F4 in the Fujita scale. He left a destruction path that was 750 m wide and 160 kilometers long. Eighteen people were killed and 60 injured.
