Richardson County, Nebraska

Richardson County is a county located in the state of Nebraska in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Falls City, which was named after the waterfalls of the Nemaha River.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme southeast of Nebraska, on the south by Kansas, on the east by Missouri and has an area of 1440 square kilometers, of which 7 square kilometers is water area. It borders in Nebraska clockwise to the following counties: Nemaha County and Pawnee County.

History

Richardson County was formed in 1855. It was named after William Alexander Richardson, a former governor of the territory. On May 30, 1879 tornado moved through the Irving Richarson County. This tornado reached wind speeds of up to 420 km / h, which means a classification F4 in the Fujita scale. He left a destruction path that was 750 m wide and 160 kilometers long. Eighteen people were killed and 60 injured.
