Source village is a hamlet of the town Southern Anhalt district Anhalt- Bitterfeld, in Saxony- Anhalt.

Until the formation of the unified community Southern Anhalt on 1 January 2010 Source village was an independent municipality in the administrative community Southern Anhalt with the associated district this village. Last Mayor of Quellendorf was Doris Zimmermann.

Geography

Source village is located about 15 kilometers southwest of Dessau and twelve kilometers east of the county town of Köthen (Anhalt). The area between the Elbe and Fuhne is very scarcely wooded and is farmed intensively - the Mosigkauer Heath northeast of source village is one of the few large contiguous forest areas in the region.

History

Quellendorf

As the founder of today's Quellendorf go to Richard of torment village. The first written mention of the village dates from the year 1265 as Qualendorp. By law, the Duke of Anhalt of 10 August 1838, the town was renamed by reference to a source close to the source in the village.

The place name was called in earlier times Qualendorp or spoiled village and was renamed by order of the Prince of Anhalt in today's Quellendorf. The motorway connection Dessau- Süd is about 10 km away (A 9 Berlin - Munich). The nearest train stations are in Dessau, Köthen and Raguhn.
