René Novotný

René Novotný ( born June 10, 1963 in Čeladná ) is a former Czech figure skater, who started pair skating.

He joined with three different figure skating partners internationally in appearance. His first partner was Jana Havlová, 1983 Novotný was with her ninth place at the European Championships and 15th at the World Championships. From 1985 to 1988, his partner Lenka Knapová. Her best result at a European Championship was the fourth place in 1987 and at the World Cup, the tenth place they reached in 1986 and 1987.

From 1990, Novotný finally ran to the side of Radka Kovaříková. With her he celebrated his greatest successes. Already in its second joint World Cup they won their first medal in 1992. In Oakland, they were runners-up behind Natalia and Artur Dmitriev Mischkutjonok. It was the first World Cup medal for a Czech pair has the silver medal win by Věra Suchánková and Zdenek Dolezal 1958. At the Olympic Games in Albertville in 1992 they missed in fourth a medal and at the Olympic Games in 1994 in Lillehammer they finished sixth. After four fourth places in a row, the pair won in 1995 in Dortmund, his first and only European Cup medal by Vice-European Champion behind Mandy Woetzel and Ingo Steuer were. However, her biggest success experienced Novotný and Kovaříková in the subsequent World Cup. In Birmingham, coached by Irina Rodnina pair became world champion. They are the only Czech pair skating world champion in history.

After her title win René Novotný and Radka Kovaříková finished their amateur career, got married and changed to the professionals. 1995 and 1997 they were professional world champion, they also occurred in Stars on Ice, and can be seen to this day in ice shows around the world.
