Roccella Ionica
Roccella Ionica is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 6376 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Reggio Calabria in Calabria. The municipality is situated approximately 70 km east-northeast of Reggio Calabria on the Ionian Sea. Roccella Ionica belongs to the Comunità montana Stilaro - Allaro Limina and borders the province of Vibo Valentia.
History
The community may be traced back to an ionic city's founding Amphissa in Magna Graecia. At the present time Roccella Ionica has become known primarily for festivals.
Traffic
The municipality is situated on the Strada Statale Jonica 106, which leads at the same time as European route 90 to the Calabrian coast. A train station is at the ferrovia Jonica, which runs from Taranto to Reggio Calabria.
Twinning
Roccella Ionica has since 2007 an intra- Italian partnership with Arco in the Province of Trento.
