Schönbach, Rhineland-Palatinate

Schönenbach is a municipality in the district of volcanic Eifel region of Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Daun.

Geography

The municipality is located in the natural park Eifel and partly in the nature reserve "Between Ueß and Kyll ". To Schönenbach includes the residential places Berghof, Hubertushof and Schönbacher mill.

History

Schönenbach was first mentioned in the 14th century: On the Sunday after St. Viti 1364 Arnold pointed from Dune, called by the Marte ( markets ), the Burchhard of Vinstingen, Lord Schoenecken, and his wife Blanche seven guilders annual pension from his half court to " Even Bach " and wore it the same on a fief.

From 1357 until the end of the 18th century Schönenbach belonged to the Electoral-Trier office down. Ecclesiastically the place belonged to the Archbishopric of Cologne.

Still in 1794 had the Electorate of Cologne and the Electorate of Trier lands to Schönenbach, which was auctioned by the French government. In 1840 the municipality Schönenbach had 47 acres and 567 Holzungen morning Wildland.

In 1563 Schönenbach had 13 houses with about 60 to 70 residents. After the Thirty Years' War ( 1654) only five fireplaces were counted, which corresponds to a population of 20 to 30 persons.

Coat of arms

The blazon is: " Divided into silver by diagonally left, blue wave bar; above a red cross bar, down a red plate covered with 9 ( 3:3:3 ) golden balls ".

The blue wave bar has the " Schönenbach " way, which gave the place its name. The Schönenbach is a tributary of the Üßbachs. The red bars cross indicates the former sovereign belonging to the Electorate of Trier. The shield with the nine balls is an attribute of the local patron saint, St. Quirinus.
