William Murphy (Bishop of Kerry)
William Murphy ( born June 6, 1936 in Annaghmore, County Armagh, Northern Ireland) is a Roman Catholic priest and Bishop Emeritus of Kerry.
Life
He attended the Ratheen National School and St. Brendan 's College in Killarney. He then studied in Maynooth and prepared there waiting to be before a priest. On June 18, 1961, his ordination. Murphy taught for six years at St. Colman 's College in Newry and studied Catechetics at Lumen Vitae in Brussels and at Fordham University in New York City, where in 1969 he received his Master of Arts in Religious Education. Then Murphy spent a year in the Diocese of Kerry Diocesan Advisor for Religious Education in primary schools and went after for three years to Rome, where he attended the Pontifical Gregorian University and in 1973 received his Doctorate in Theology ( Doctor of Divinity ) received.
For the next five years, Murphy worked together with the Primary Catechetical Commission with the preparation of the Children of God series, a basic school catechetical program. In the late 1970s taught Murphy for a year theology at the Institute for Religious Education in Mount Oliver, Dundalk and returned after 1979 back in the diocese Kerry, where he was diocesan director of religious education at the secondary level as well as coordinator for adult religious education in the diocese.
He was also the first director of the John Paul II Pastoral Centre, Killarney. In September 1987, he was curate of the parish of Killarney, 1988, including their parish administrator. As Bishop Diarmaid Ó Súilleabháin in August 1994 died, Murphy was appointed Diocesan Administrator of the Diocese.
On June 17, 1995, Pope John Paul II Murphy as the new Bishop of Kerry. On September 10, 1995, he received episcopal consecration by the Archbishop of Cashel and Emly, Dermot Clifford. Co-consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, Emanuele Gerada, and the Bishop of Cork and Ross, Michael Murphy.
On May 2, 2013 Francis Pope accepted his resignation age-related.
