17th Army (German Empire)

The 17th Army / Army High Command 17 (AOK 17 ) was a major unit or a command authority of the German Army during the First World War. It included several Army or Reserve Corps and numerous special troops.

In 1918, the Supreme Command gathered many troops for the planned spring offensive (Operation " Michael" ) on the Western Front. In addition to a strengthening of the existing two new armies were formed, the 17th Army and the 18th Army. The troops of the 17th Army rallied from January 1918 in the space between Fresnes and Moeuvres. The new Army High Command 17 was created by the relocation and renaming of the Army High Command 14 on 1 February 1918. Commander was General der Infanterie Otto von Below.

When the German offensive beginning on March 21, 1918, the 17th Army was formed together with the 2nd Army right wing attack. The offensive ended after initial successes in July 1918.
