  • April 3 - KWKH Louisiana Hayride sends, which is exceeded in the 1950s only by the Grand Ole Opry in popularity for the first time.
  • May 15 - The Billboard Magazine introduces a second hit parade of country music: the Best Selling Folk Retail Records. Thus, it was possible to have two number-one title.
  • July 24 - Roy Acuff announces his candidacy for the office of governor of Tennessee. Acuff, who is competing for the Republican Party will lose the election, however.
  • Eddy Arnold dominated the charts with five number one hits; the only artist other than Arnold, who reached the top of the charts in 1948, is Jimmy Wakely with "One Has My Name ( The Other Has My Heart ) ".
  • The Big D Jamboree is in Dallas, Texas, for the first time on the air
  • The Chippewa Valley Barn Dance is in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, for the first time on the air
  • The Country Barn Dance Carnival is in San Gabriel, California, for the first time on the air
