Background

The season finale of the Formula 1 season 1958 was held in Morocco, this was the only time that a simple count for the World Championship Grand Prix was held in this country.

Mike Hawthorn and Stirling Moss still had the chance to win the drivers' title. Hawthorn filed a second place to become world champion. Moss, however, had to win the race and Hawthorn should have been at most a third party. The constructors' championship had already been decided before the race, Vanwall won this item.

Ferrari started with three cars. In addition to Hawthorn and Phil Hill, who established himself as the new team drivers with the team again went Olivier Gendebien for the Scuderia Ferrari. For Hawthorn, it was the last Formula 1 race of his career, he finished his career after the season. Competitor Vanwall also started with three cars next to Moss nor Tony Brooks and Stuart Lewis -Evans were registered for the race. Training

The training for the Grand Prix of Morocco 1958 was a duel between the drivers' title aspirants Hawthorn and Moss, the Hawthorn decided by a tenth of a second ahead one last time for themselves. With a total of four pole positions Hawthorn scored the most pole positions of the Formula 1 season 1958.

Half a second slower than Moss Lewis -Evans qualified for the third place before Behra in fourth place. The BRM driver Behra kept as a single with the times of the two top teams Ferrari and Maserati. Race
