1964–65 DDR-Oberliga

The season 1964/65 was the 16th edition of the East German Oberliga. Champion for the fourth time the ASK Vorwärts Berlin, which thus became the sole record holder of the GDR. The season began on August 9, 1964 and ended on June 6, 1965.

Preseason

From a purely geographically, the league was to start the season as balanced as not for years. At least six of the 14 Oberliga came from the northern and central districts. " Only " eight came from the southern districts. The district Neubrandenburg was represented for the first ( and, ultimately, the last) time in the highest soccer class. In contrast, the district hall presented for the first time no league representative.

Course of the season

After Vorwärts Berlin could not decisively intervene in the championship race two years, the Army football players this time secured with two games remaining, their fourth championship title. This moved forward past bismuth Aue and was now the sole DDR record champions. In second and third place, the master of the previous engine Jena followed ( Champion 1963) and Chemie Leipzig ( Master 1964), with only Jena Berliners permanently serious competition offered. The SC Leipzig came again with his fourth place behind city rivals Chemie Leipzig to the finish.

The relegation battle, however, was finally decided until the last round.
