Dinamo Bucharest, ASK Vorwärts Berlin, Redbergslids IK, Fram Reykjavík, Atlético Madrid, Berlin SV 92, SV Arild Oslo, Ajax Copenhagen, Helsinki Union, Dukla Prague and Tbilisi Burevestnik had byes, and went thus directly into the second round.
